I graduated from the LACE- Leadership and Community Engagement Program organized by the Saskatoon Open Door Society. Remarkably, my team, the Newcomers Orientation Team, won the Best Presentation Award… It was deserving and worth our joint efforts!
I am grateful for this opportunity yet again, to be part of a team causing positive impact and development in my new community in Canada. Like they say, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” This is a good step in a good direction for me and the entire graduating class.
Special thanks to the Saskatoon Open Door Society for putting this laudable program together and giving the opportunity for newcomers to demonstrate and contribute their leadership skills towards the common good. Also to our facilitators, Dolores Wollbaum and Naseer Alokozai, for their commitment at mentoring and transferring their knowledge in such an appreciative way.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Saskatoon Open Door Society for providing me with this invaluable training opportunity. The in-person sessions were not only enlightening but also instrumental in shaping my professional journey. Through the practical skills and knowledge gained, I now feel more equipped to tackle challenges with confidence and competence.
A big shoutout to all the guest speakers whose insights added immense value to our learning experience, the program coordinators (Dolores Wollbaum, Naseer Alokozai, Fahad Sharif) and the [Group Projects] judges. Your expertise truly made a difference!
I am immensely grateful for the resources and time invested by the organization in facilitating this program and supporting my developmental aspirations. It’s heartening to know that there are institutions like Saskatoon Open Door Society dedicated to empowering individuals like me to make meaningful contributions to our community.

The LACE Program at the Open-Door Society was instrumental in advancing my career and to a leadership position as a Social Service Manager at The Salvation Army. Through its targeted training in leadership development, cultural awareness, and community engagement, I gained the confidence and practical skills needed to lead diverse teams and manage complex social service programs. The program not only strengthened my professional capabilities but also opened doors to meaningful employment opportunities, helping me transition into a leadership role where I can make a lasting impact.
