The Saskatoon Open Door Society (SODS) has been closely following the recent worldwide protests against systemic racism, police brutality against people of colour and the demand for justice and meaningful reforms to ensure equity and inclusion for all, including those in Canada.
SODS long-standing mission is to assist newcomers to Canada to become participating members of an inclusive and diverse community and country. Its vision as an organization has been to ensure that Saskatoon and Canada strive to be a diverse and inclusive community where newcomers fully participate in its economic, social, intellectual and cultural life. This ideal and holistic approach is deeply rooted in the value of equality.
SODS acknowledges the existence of systemic racism in our country and its impact on communities of colour, and is proud that its staff promotes equity and inclusion and takes corrective steps in eliminating racism and racial discrimination. SODS supports the efforts of our partners in the community in creating and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive community and society where everyone matters.
SODS is committed to standing up against racism and divisive discourse, and has an ongoing commitment to addressing its root causes and drivers in accordance with the May 2019 United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech in response to the escalation of racial tensions, hate speech, and violence world-wide.
SODS recommends that those who wish to participate in the various peaceful rallies or protests continue to follow recommendations by Health Authorities to ensure everyone’s health and safety.
