About Indigenous-Newcomer Connections
The program is grounded in a simple but powerful purpose: to build understanding and relationships between newcomers and Indigenous peoples in Canada.
All programming is guided by the wisdom of Elders and Knowledge Keepers from the SODS Indigenous Advisory Committee and supported through partnerships with local Indigenous organizations.

What you'll experience
Come learn and participate in activities such as:
- Visits to Wanuskewin Heritage Park, to a First Nations community, and to Pow Wow events, Round Dances, and other gatherings
- Hands-on activities such as beading and birchbark basket making with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers
- Storytelling circles, cultural teachings, and ceremonies with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers
- Indigenous learning workshops designed especially for newcomers
- Community events that celebrate Indigenous culture and connections, such as the Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation and National Indigenous Peoples Day
