About Threads

THREADS is a cross-cultural online conference that offers employers, teachers, students, and people from all walks of life the tools to cultivate a more inclusive environment in Canada and across the world. The worldviews of participants are expanded through meaningful dialogues and exchanges.

THREADS weaves the tapestry of community.

THREADS is more than a conference; it’s a platform for personal and professional development that builds on shared stories and experiences, listening to one another, and rethinking assumptions.

Speakers and performers share their diverse stories in online knowledge talks, accompanied by art, film, storytelling, dance, music, theatre, poetry, philosophy, and more.

The inspiration behind THREADS' name

THREADS’ name is inspired from a mother’s jar of threads that she kept from old garments she took apart and then re-sewed into new garments. The Threads jar is a metaphor for how our lives intertwine and how each of us are a thread interwoven into lives that evolve across space and time.

Watch Anita Ogurlu and her mother, Phyllis Ivanochko, talk about the inspiration behind THREADS’ name.
